There are a lot of interesting places to visit in Sweden. One of them is the Medieval Church in Helsingborg. It was built in 1100. But after two hundred years, the population had grown so much that there was a need for a new church to be built. Its construction took almost 100 years and finally, around 1400, Saint Mary’s Church in Helsingborg was completed. Sancta Maria kyrka still stands in the middle of the Swedish town.

Before you enter the church, you should walk around the building. You can see a lot of bricks and they look impressive. They may seem strange at first sight but when you get closer, you will find out that they are an amazing part of Saint Mary’s Church architecture.
Along with the faces, take a look at the altarpiece from the 1400s and keep your eyes on the wall of the church looking for remnants of frescoes painted long ago and now fading.
Once you are in the church, you can turn left and walk towards the wall. The stone reliefs are displayed in a small case which is hidden away. The reliefs were removed from the church yard and replaced with replicas. The meaning of the faces on these stone reliefs is still unknown.
Besides stone reliefs, you can also take a look at the altarpiece from the 1400s. You will be fascinated by seeing the remnants of very old frescoes on the walls of the church. The entrance is completely free. When visiting this church you may also visit Kärnan, Helsingborg’s medieval fortress, and take a deeper look at the Swedish and Danish history.
